Greg Wheatley

Music Director

Greg Wheatley says that some of his earliest memories of music were of learning to play the piano under the instruction of his grandmother. From that point on, he can’t remember a time when there wasn’t music of some kind in his life. Whether it was playing piano, marching in the high school band, or attending a symphony orchestra concert, the love of music has been an integral part of Greg’s life. After graduating from high school, he attended Spring Arbor College, where he earned a degree in music. He eventually went on to earn a Master’s degree in music theory from Michigan State University. Along the way, Greg’s involvement in Christian broadcasting brought him to Moody Radio, where he spent 22 years. His interest in broadcasting combined with his love of sacred music resulted in the program Sound of Majesty, which aired on Moody Radio for most of those 22 years.

Greg has considerable experience in choral conducting. He is the musical director of the Glen Ellyn-Wheaton Chorale. He has also served as the director of the College Church Singers and as one of the interim directors of music at College Church. He is a member of the adjunct faculties at Wheaton College and Moody Bible Institute, Chicago.

Greg believes that music has a very important place in the life of the church. Christians are called not only to praise God with music (Psalm 150), but also to encourage and instruct one another (Colossians 3:16). In all of this, Greg believes that the primary musical voice in worship belongs to the people in the pews. In light of that, congregational song is preeminent in the life of this church.

Greg’s wife Jennifer serves as a Ministry Associate for Music at College Church, where she oversees the children’s choirs. Greg and Jennifer have three adult children and four grandchildren.
